about me

Mr. Fountzoulas is an internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon with comprehensive training in all aspects of Shoulder and Elbow surgery, acquired through training programs in the UK, France, and Italy, encompassing both elective procedures and complex trauma cases.

He completed a prestigious shoulder fellowship under the guidance of Prof. Pascal Boileau at Nice University Hospital, gaining extensive experience in Shoulder surgery within a high-intensity fellowship program. During this period, Mr. Fountzoulas participated in a multi-center study in Nice, leading to a presentation of his work on the Norris technique at the international Nice shoulder conference in 2016. His time in France also involved significant research contributions, including co-authoring three book chapters and an article on the Norris technique.

Mr. Fountzoulas furthered his expertise through two one-year fellowships in Shoulder and Elbow surgery at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) under the mentorship of Mr. Patel and Mr. Little, as well as at the North Tees University Hospital, working closely with Mr. Jeavons and Mr. Liowe. These experiences provided hands-on exposure to arthroscopic and arthroplasty procedures, as well as upper limb trauma cases.

While specializing in Shoulder surgery, Mr. Fountzoulas also completed a fellowship in lower limb surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead under the guidance of Prof. Deiary Kader. This diversified his skills to include hip and knee arthroplasty surgery and the management of complex lower limb injuries.

In pursuit of a deeper understanding of orthopaedic principles, Mr. Fountzoulas earned a postgraduate degree in Orthopaedic engineering in Cardiff, enhancing his knowledge of biomechanics, joint replacements, and orthopaedic implant design, enabling him to make evidence-based implant choices.

As part of the BOA Future Leaders program, Mr. Fountzoulas successfully achieved a CMI-accredited Level 7 Certificate (equivalent to a Master’s degree) in Strategic Management and Leadership. This qualification empowers him to contribute to the development of Orthopaedic Consultant Leadership Capabilities within the NHS and promote service transformation and quality improvement in trauma and orthopaedic services.

He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2017 and continues to actively participate in the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. Throughout his training and consultant career, Mr. Fountzoulas has been dedicated to clinical research and academia, publishing international papers and actively participating in scientific meetings worldwide. Currently, he serves as a part-time upper limb consultant at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

He has extensive experience in shoulder replacement across all age groups, utilizing state-of-the-art 3-D CT planning technology and high-performance implants to optimize patient function and quality of life.

His mission is to provide patients with cutting-edge, evidence-based treatments in a friendly and accessible manner. He is recognized by both patients and peers for his exceptional communication skills and the high level of service delivered by his dedicated team.
